🤝 What is Hoori?
Hoori (also called Chit Fund, Dhukuti, ROSCA - Rotating Savings and Credit Association) is a traditional way groups of friends or family save money together!
Here's how it works:
- A group of people (usually 10) agree to save together
- Everyone puts in the same amount every month
- Every month, ONE person takes the whole pot home
- By the end, everyone has put in the same amount AND received the same amount!
🌍 Hoori/ROSCA exists in many cultures: "Chit Fund" in India, "Susu" in Caribbean, "Tanda" in Mexico, "Arisan" in Indonesia!
💰 Why Do People Do It?
For the first person (Month 1):
They get a "0% interest loan" from everyone else. Great if you need money NOW!
For the last person (Month 10):
It's like a "forced savings account." You save money you might otherwise spend!
For everyone in between:
You get a mix of both - some savings, some loan benefits!
⚠️ VERY IMPORTANT - THE TRUST PROBLEM!
Hoori ONLY works if everyone trusts each other!
- ❌ If ONE person takes the money and disappears, the circle breaks!
- ❌ Everyone loses their money!
- ✅ That's why Hoori is usually with family or CLOSE friends!
- ✅ Written agreements help, but trust is essential!
Never do Hoori with strangers or people you don't trust completely!
📊 Modern Alternatives
