Cars are rated from 0 to 5 based on how much they can drive themselves. Let's check them out!
What it means: Regular car - you do everything!
Example: Most old cars. The driver controls everything - steering, gas, brakes.
What it means: The car can help with ONE thing at a time
Example: Cruise control that maintains speed, or parking assist
Cars: Many cars today have this!
What it means: Car can help with steering AND speed at the same time
Example: Tesla Autopilot, GM Super Cruise
But: You must still pay attention and be ready to take over!
What it means: Car can drive itself in certain situations
Example: Mercedes Drive Pilot - drives itself on highways
But: You must be ready to take over when the car asks!
What it means: Car can drive itself in most places
Example: Waymo (Google's self-driving taxis) in some cities
But: Might still need a human in some situations
What it means: The car can drive ANYWHERE - no steering wheel needed!
Example: Doesn't exist yet! This is the dream.
The future: Maybe someday!
Even though self-driving sounds amazing, most cars on the road today are Level 2. That means you STILL need to pay attention!
